Nashville Tennessee, the Music City

Cowboy Boots, Guitars, Honky Tonks, and Mullets…

A few weekends ago Brian and I spent the weekend “baby sitting” his cousins in Brentwood, Tennessee (a nice suburb of Nashville). It was actually more like chaperoning since his cousins are in 8th and 10th grade. I loved meeting more members of Brian’s family. The weekend was filled with watching football (his cousins are also proud Michigan fans),  eating texas style bar-b-que at Judge Beans (probably the best bbq I’ve ever eaten… quite the bold statement I know, but it was mouth-watering-licking-your-fingers-after good), and playing with their adorable dog Bodie.

I fell in love with Nashville on my first visit there in 2008. Some friends and I decided to road trip down for the CMA festival, a four day country concert. I literally saw every country music singer I could imagine from Randy Travis to Miranda Lambert. Live country and blue grass music flowed out of every bar into the street and the “Music City” was alive with boot scootin’, line dancin’, rowdy country music fans.

So I was pretty excited Brian and I managed to squeeze in a short tour around downtown Nashville for a few hours. We strolled down Broadway Street,  stopped by a honky tonk, Robert’s Western World,  to listen to some live music, and even visited the famous “mullet wall” at the bar Paradise Park Trailer Resort.

If you ever visit here Gwyneth Paltrow has some recommendations on her blog, Goop,  for music venues, bars and restaurants.

A Very Happy Birthday Celebration

moms birthday cake

This past weekend, I celebrated my lovely mother’s birthday.  She honestly deserves a celebration every day because she’s just that wonderful.  Every time I visit home, I realize just how much I miss her, so I tried to soak up all the “mom” time I could. On Saturday, we spent the whole day doing girly things like getting mani/pedis, jewelry shopping, lunching, seeing a movie, and then ended the day with my mom’s closet friends drinking cocktails and eating steak (not so girly but sooo good)!

Love you Mom!
