Gypsy Soul Giveaway

UPDATE: Congrats to Claire Molloy for winning my very first giveaway! Thanks to everyone who entered and check back in next month for the March giveaway!

I’ve been wanting to start some monthly giveaways on my blog for quite some time now.  February seemed like the perfect time to start, considering it’s the month of lovvvee and being recently engaged (are you sick of me mentioning that already:?),  I can’t stop thinking about love. The good news for you, is that I’m sharing this contagious feeling by showering you with some awesome gifts-hopefully each month.

This month I’m giving  away a pack of Becca Bands!

There are some pretty creative peeps out there that I’m fortunate enough to know. This is especially the case when the creator is another Becca!

Becca Bands are these amazing  elastic hair ties and head bands that don’t leave a crease in your hair. They’re hand dyed and tied with love by Becca herself.  Best of all they’re super cute and come in every color of the rainbow. I wear mine on my wrist all the time.  I’m pretty hard on everything I own and can attest that they’re super durable and don’t fade or fray. Also, they actually stay in your hair without slipping or sliding.

Here’s just a few of the awesome colors!

Here’s the full story behind the creation on Becca Bands.

In 2010 I traveled to my cousin’s wedding in California. While there I stumbled across some elastic hair ties at a local boutique. These hair ties were amazing and looked great in my hair and on my wrist. A couple of weeks later I decided I had to have more. There were only a couple of problems: 1) the hair ties I had were fraying and not the quality I wanted and 2) I could not find these hair ties anywhere! My solution?..make them myself! I searched for the best quality elastic and started hand dying and tying my own hair ties and Becca Bands was born. Becca Bands come in a variety of colors and combinations and are heat sealed so the ends won’t fray like other elastic hair ties. They won’t snag your hair or leave a dent like ordinary hair ties do either. They truly are the perfect hair tie made with love!

Working up courage

I’ve been giving a lot of thought about my life these past few months; what makes me happy, what goals I’d like to accomplish, what I enjoy doing, what I like about myself and what I don’t, what I wanna be when I grow up.  Turning 27, I’ve realized that making my own decisions is hard and becoming the person I’d liked to be isn’t an easy task. I’ve made a lot of wrong decisions along the way and am currently working on making more of the right ones.

Fear and indecisiveness can be such debilitating emotions. I’ve realized that I’ve let fear hold me back from accomplishing many things like taking the GRE in fear that I won’t score high enough,  applying to grad school in fear that I won’t get into the program of my choice or that even worse, I’ll chose the wrong program, investing in one of my hobbies like photography in fear that I still won’t be that great, and putting myself out there more with my blog in fear that my thoughts just wouldn’t be intersting enough to read. Fear can really hold you back.

I think some greatest people in my life  are those  I’ve witnessed really putting themselves out there, working hard, and sometimes just by the skin of their teeth getting what they wanted. I truly admire them most and am working to be more courageous like them.

I’m putting this post out there, because I want something to hold me accountable!

My blog dreams…

I can’t share that much quite yet, but I have been working hard to try some new things on my blog! So far, I can attest that they really have paid off. Don’t mean to be so elusive, but I’m keeping it a surprise for now 🙂

One thing I can share, is that I entered myself into DIY design contest called Creating with the Stars on the site East Coast Creative. I would’ve never done this before in fear that my projects wouldn’t be good enough, but with the motivation of my friend over at Skillet.Sneakers. Style. I did! I decided to enter one of my very first DIY projects, the Built-in Ikea closets Brian and I so diligently worked on. It’s means so much more because it was built in our very first apartment together.

Remember this project?

Vote for me!

creating with the stars

So if you have a moment, pop on over to East Coast Creative and vote for project #214 (built-in Ikea closets). All you have to do is click on the thumbnail to vote. Click on it a couple times if you don’t mind. The more clicks I get the closer I am to becoming a design star. The first round of the contest only lasts 3 more days so help a courageous sistah out!

More Goals

As for my other goals I’ve been putting off. I’ve started looking at study programs for the GRE, re-looking at some grad school programs, and really being mindful of what I enjoy at my current job.

If you don’t mind, check in with me from time to time to see where I am in the process. I know it’ll help keep me motivated to accomplish big thing and help keep  that little voice inside my head quiet for a while.

40 Days of Inspiration

For Lent this year, I decided instead of giving something up I would take something on. Like I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been pretty stressed out and run down lately with a big project at work and the 43209345 things I try to tackle in my personal time like running, blogging, DIYing, decorating our apartment, playing the fiddle, yoga-ing, cooking, hanging out with my friends, and sleeping occasionally. Can you tell I like hobbies? My hobbies really do bring me happiness, but I can be pretty hard on myself if projects take longer than I think they should.

After my relaxing trip to Mexico, I’m realizing that I need to give myself a break occasionally and remind myself I can’t do everything in a day. Figuring out more ways to relieve some stress from my busy bee life should be a priority.

Stress certainly can bring on some negative emotions, so I’ve decided that each day (for 40 days) I’m beginning my day with positivity.

Here’s some things I’ve done to keep the good vibes flowing.

Warning: You may think this post is somewhat corny, but this happy clam over here is grinning ear to ear.

Positive Quotes

I’ve been reading about 10 positive quotes a day and then pinning quotes like this one that inspire me that day.

Positivity Journal

I’ve started writing in my positivity journal each day (another gift from my Sunshine). So far, I’ve written about what I’m grateful for each day and the positive thoughts I’ve reflected on each day. It’s helped me bring clarity to what caused stress that day and brainstorm ways to handle situations differently. It certainly is a nice outlet for reflection, a reminder  of everything good in my life,  and, a tool for  creating solutions (instead of just complaining).

Visualizing something positive

Oh, did I mentioned I’m engaged!?! Sorry if I may have hit your car earlier (kidding) but I’ve been staring at my engagement ring from my fiance’ ever since I got it (even while driving)!! I mean I can’t help it, it’s so sparkly.

engagement ring

But for real though, every time I look down on my hand I’m reminded of the sunshine Brian brings into my life 🙂  I’m living on cloud 9 and wearing rose colored glasses fo sho.  I can’t lie, this definitely helps with the positivity but I’m doing everything I can to continually bring out my inner mojo. I plan to share our engagement story in my upcoming Mexico posts!

I’ve found in these past three days that by beginning my day with positivity really sets the tone for my whole day and ending the day with positivity makes it that much easier to start the next day the same way. With positive vibes on my side, stressful situations don’t phase me quite as much. I just keep reminding myself that every day is progress and even if there are problems, with my renewed inner strength, my busy days seem much more manageable.

I’ll leave you with a quote my aunt passed along yesterday.

The greatest thing we’ll ever learn  is just to love and be loved in return. Eden Ahbez

Hope your day is filled with positivity and love. Ya mon.

Puerto Morelos Preview

two days till mexico

Only 2 days till we leave for Mexico! Work and life have been pretty stressful lately and I couldn’t be more ready for some sunshine and relaxation.  My mom will be traveling along with Brian and I for her first trip out of the country!  Travel brings me so much joy and I’m excited to share this trip with her and Sunshine (aka Brian).

We booked this trip through cheapcaribbean.com. Cheap Carribbean allowed us to book an all inclusive resort package that included our flights. I must say, it was nice to book everything together, and I’m excited that when we arrive most of the cost is already covered! Cheap Caribbean also allows you to make payments on the trip.  We paid for the flights on our trip when we booked and then made payments to pay for the rest.

We’re staying the at the Hotel Marina El Cid located in the Riviera Maya region. Our resort is located in a nicer resort area about 40 minutes south of Cancun. So lucky for us, we won’t be partying with any spring breakers even though my mom would love to (jk 😉 )

I can’t wait to test out the complimentary activities at our hotel like windsurfing, kayaking, self guided snorkeling, and maybe some yoga. Puerto Morelos, the little town our resort is in,  is supposed to have some of the best dive spots in the area!

Don’t worry, I plan to take full advantage of the  pool  and poolside service! A pina colada will permanently sit in my right hand.

pina colada Looks about right!

Brian and I consulted our trusty moon book to pick a few guided activities. We can’t sit still for too long (ya’ll know that)!  While staying here we plan to mark off another new world wonder and visit Chichen Itza, explore ik kil cenote,  and go on a guided snorkel trip.

Chichen Itza Mexico Chichen Itza, meaning “at the mouth of the Itza well”, is a Mayan City on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, between Valladolid and Merida. It was established before the period of Christopher Colombus and probably served as the religion center of Yucatan for a while.

ik kil cenote The Maya believed natural wells, such as the Ik Kil  cenote in Mexico’s Yucatán, led to the underworld.

diving in cancun Really hope I get to see one of these!

Now somehow I just have to convince myself to pack sooner than 11 pm the night before the trip! Maybe I’ll pick up a new dress and a bathing suit to provide some motivation. Always easier to pack clothes when you just have to take them out of the shopping bag and put them in your suit case!

Buenas Noches!
